Charity Fun Dog Show at Oakington Dog Day Care!

We had a great day at Oakington Dog Day Care 2019 Fun Dog show on 15th September. It was a much warmer day then we were expecting and the paddling pools were soon deployed to cool the dogs down. We are delighted to see so many people and gorgeous dogs come along and help us raise £803 for Canine Partners, this takes our total raised over the last 4 years to £2,815.

SO MANY THANK YOU’S...

There are so many people that give their time to make our day such a success, our Oakington Dog Daycare Team and some special friends were amazing before, during and after the event, you know who you are! And every dog show needs a judge and our Lady Judge Natalie Kemp RVN CV did an absolutely sterling job. I know what a hard job she had to choose amongst so many gorgeous doggies. We also received help from the local dog community. As Mel from Cambridge Dog Services was taken poorly on the day and was unable to run the Scentwork competition that she was so looking forward to, a member from the Cambridge Canine Education Group stepped in and devised a Fun Obedience competition for us at the last minute that we could then run. Blues Hoopers provided us with a very hotly contested Hoopers competition, our thanks go to Sharon for running this popular attraction. Canine Partners supported us so well by coming along with a team of people, dogs and puppies in training. And The Oakington Cubs provided a fantastic tasty BBQ for us and raised about £150 for themselves, it’s lovely to work within the village and support each other.

A big thanks to all our sponsors for supporting us in so many ways, by donating prizes for the prize bags, donating raffle prizes and class sponsorship, we really couldn’t do it without your kind generosity.

SENSORY GARDEN

Our aim was to get our new sensory garden set out in readiness for our dog show, we wanted to be able to show off our newest addition at Oakington Dog Day Care to everyone who attended. We are adding to the garden every week and it will continue to evolve, so that there is always something new for our dogs to experience. It has been received well by those who have seen it both human and canine. Watch our Facebook page to see new additions to the garden…….

Our Chosen Charity – CANINE PARTNERS

The easiest way I can explain why we have supported Canine Partners this year is to share a talk that we were invited to hear by a lady who has had her life changed by a Canine Partners assistance dog.

The lady in question ran her own business and had young children, when one day a car rolled into her and crushed her legs in a supermarket car park, changing her life in just a few seconds. A Canine partners dog gave her the ability to live her life and be independent again, it enabled her to do daily tasks and more than that it made her visible to the world now that she was in a wheelchair. When she was in being pushed in her wheelchair she felt invisible, but with a dog at her side she felt she had regained her identity. This lady spoke eloquently and shared with us the practicalities of life and is why we have supported them again this year so that they can continue to do such valuable work.

Canine Partners receive no government funding and rely solely on donations from the public and legacies to help them continue their life-transforming work.

Again, thank you to everyone who helped to raise £803 for Canine Partners, they appreciate everyone’s support enormously.
